Effect of Horizontal Offset on Vertical Compression Strength of Stacked Corrugated Fiberboard Boxes
نویسنده
چکیده
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of horizontal offset on the compression strength of stacked box configu rations. Four different boxes of varying sizes and similar board com binations, made from similar flute but different manufacturers were studied. The single box compression strength for each type of box was determined to represent as the control for this study. The com pression strength of control boxes were compared to overall strength of a three-high stack and in three different offset configurations. In ad dition, a set of perfectly aligned boxes stacked three high were com pression tested for comparison with control and mis-aligned stacked boxes. The stack configurations were offset either in the length, width or diagonally (both length and width) with an offset distance of 12.7 mm, 25.4 mm or 38.1 mm (0.5, 1, and 1.5 inches).

Effect of Palletized Box Offset on Compression Strength of Unitized and Stacked Empty Corrugated Fiberboard Boxes
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of pallet type, tie-sheet and stack configuration on compression strength of a palletized load of boxes. Four boxes made from similar board grade and different dimensions were selected for this study. The col umn stack configuration which represented the control was compared with the 3 stack configurations either on a CHEP® or GMA pallet. Th...
متن کاملEffect of Relative Humidity on the Optimum Flute Shape for Corrugated Fiberboard
Container stacking strength is an important performance requirement of corrugated fiberboard. The objective of this study is to examine theoretically how fluting geometry affects fiberboard strength and stiffness under standard relative humidity (RH) and high RH conditions. The fluted medium in a corrugated fiberboard is modeled as a connection of curved arc and straight flank segments passing ...
متن کاملEffect of Through Stationary Edge and Center Cracks on Static Buckling Strength of Thin Plates under Uniform Axial Compression
Thin plate structures are more widely used in many engineering applications as one of the structural members. Generally, buckling strength of thin shell structures is the ultimate load carrying capacity of these structures. The presence of cracks in a thin shell structure can considerably affect its load carrying capacity. Hence, in this work, static buckling strength of a thin square plate wit...
متن کاملComparison of Postbuckling Model and Finite Element Model with Compression Strength of Corrugated Boxes
Conventional compression strength formulas for corrugated fiberboard boxes are limited to geometry and material that produce an elastic postbuckling failure. Inelastic postbuckling can occur in squatty boxes and trays, but a mechanistic rationale for unifying observed strength data is lacking. This study employs a finite element model, instead of actual experiments, to generate experimentally d...
